At the 69th World Health Assembly in Geneva, 194 governments adopted WHO's Global Strategy on Viral Hepatitis, which includes a goal of eliminating hepatitis B and C in the next 13 years.

The global lock down due to the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the implementation of our work plan for the 2020 event. Our WHD committee will soon come up with her work plan for the year 2021. We sincerely hope that this will include a series of activities aimed at generating awareness about the disease and also encouraging research work towards finding prophylactic and chemotherapeutic vaccines. In addition, we are looking forward to a Seminar on the road map towards eliminating hepatitis to be held in Abuja (Venue to be announced later), radio and television, talks on Hepatitis with the provision for listeners to ask questions (About seven stations in the country are listed for this programme), free counselling and screening for Hepatitis B and C to be held in at centres located in each of the six senatorial districts (Venues to be announced later).

The theme for the 2021 WHD will be communicated when announced.
