Organizational Structure

The Nigerian Society for Virology

The organizational structure of NSV has changed since it's incorporation. The NSV even prior to her incorporation receives numerous requests from various authorities or agencies such as the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), State Ministry of Health (SMOH), local government, health authorities (LGHA), private hospitals/clinic, and state federal/state/private veterinary service etc. for opinions on professional issues. Response to some requests sometimes requires several man-hours of research, discussions and report writing by our Fellows (all these go on quietly and in unheralded fanfare). The number of requests has been growing steadily over the years. With the full incorporation, the organization of the NSV was restructured to reflect it's main objectives, i.e. training, research, diagnosis and professional affairs. There is a need for all of us to broaden human qualities and skills, in addition to research and professional competencies, in complex or difficult circumstances which form the foundation of professional virological practice. Thus in this restructuring, nine (9) major standing committees have emerged:
Education
Research
Diagnosis
Professional affairs
Membership
Collaboration
Fund raising
Projects
Directorate
The professional affairs committee will continue to handle all inquiries relating to professional capabilities and effectively deal with the complexity, uncertainty and challenges of contemporary virological practice.
With the creation of the Directorate committee, all the relevant standing committees’ reports must be forwarded to the directorate committee, which is made up of the President and Chairmen of each standing committee for final review and approval so that all can benefit particularly from the professional, quality and safety perspectives.

HOW WE OPERATE

In 2017, the NSV approved a new strategic plan that focuses on the Society’s goals and objectives.
